Exhibition as reuse
Disassembly of the ordinary for extraordinary assembly in ephemeral time. The FELT project in Antwerp
Abstract
This study reflects on the role of exhibit design as reuse and reuse as exhibit design in defining immersive experiences for temporary exhibitions, starting with an existing space and the elements present, reassembled and assembled for new configurations and spatiality. Through the analysis of the “As Found” exhibition and FELT studio’s staging project, the research demonstrates how an exhibit, or scenography, can be a tool to reuse existing spaces and address issues of adaptive reuse. By examining the concepts of temporality, imperfection and infra-ordinary, the study highlights the potential of staging in creating meaningful and evocative cultural experiences.
