Light for the soul

Abstract

The idea that wellbeing comes through 'inner peace', a state of balance and serenity of mind, is a belief well borne out by our modern world, so often the exact opposite of such a state.

The design of a religious place, like a church or a seat of monastic order, by their very nature, requires project designers to address this inner condition, while often doing daily battle with regulations and restraints that are more often than not the antithesis of inner peace. The LARC Studio from Castiglione del Lago, near Perugia, was set the following task: design and build a new building structure for religious (and recreational) purposes, replacing an old structure no longer fit for use. The Sacro Core di Gesù Spirituality Center includes the seat of a religious order, along with functional spaces for various social, religious and athletic purposes, in the small town of Terontola.
